Recently Zebra Technologies and SAP announced they have created a connector between its Zatar Internet of Things (IoT) cloud service and SAP Hana cloud service. The connectivity between the two cloud based solution was built by ThingTheNet GmbH, a partner of both companies.
ThingTheNet’s solution emerged from a competition Zebra and SAP ran last year and the connector is now available on the SAP store. This connector enables enterprise customers to integrate data from IoT devices connected to Zatar directly into SAP in-memory database and business applications to better manage physical assets and obtain real-time operational intelligence.
This connectivity allows customers in healthcare, transportation and logistics, manufacturing, and retail to accelerate development of IoT products and applications; demonstrating to our partners that Zatar is a platform they can use to build applications and solutions that allow them to deploy end-to-end solutions that will quickly get them to market.
“As part of a quick prototype to demonstrate the connector – we built a Smart Towel Dispenser solution. Today most towels dispensers are manually replenished leading to a fragmented and manual process. The idea was to create an instrumented dispenser that was connected to Zatar, giving it real-time visibility to its stock level. With the AVATAR in Zatar now updating in real-time, Zatar can then send a replenishment order request via the “connector” into SAP. The data sent into SAP can be used to determine if a refill is required, push a refill request or trigger a purchase request amongst other things.”
